What is YYGS-Beijing

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an official Yale University program, helping prepare emerging student leaders for continued success in high school, college, and beyond. In 2016, YYGS first came to Yale Center Beijing and founded YYGS-Beijing program.

YYGS-Beijing is to bring together talented students across the globe to encourage their drive, energy, vision, and potential to make meaningful impacts as young leaders.

YYGS-Beijing 2018 will be an immersive 14-day pre-collegiate experience under the theme of Asia in the 21st Century. The program is designed to cultivate the next generation leaders and scholars, helping to build stronger links between Asia and a rapidly changing world. Through a highly competitive application process, up to 90 talented high school students will have the opportunity to learn from distinguished Yale faculty, students, alumni, and practitioners about the Asia development.

YYGS accepts applications from current high school sophomores (10th graders) or juniors (11th graders) only (Gao Yi or Gao Er students at Chinese high schools). YYGS does not accept applications from students who are under 15 years old.

The applicant must speak, read, and write at a level of English adequate to participate in daily interactions with other students, instructors, and faculty and high-level academic discussions.

Application Overview

The YYGS-Beijing staff reviews all applications holistically. Our staff understands that students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and with different educational and extracurricular opportunities. As a result, the written essays and letters of recommendation are the most important part of the application.
