Major advance have made towards improving health worldwide through the control and prevention of infectious diseases in the last century. However, rapid urbanization, globalization, climate change and an increasingly mobile society have created the conditions for spread of new infectious disease threats, as exemplified by outbreaks of SARS, Ebola and the recent Zika pandemic.
On September 5, Dr. Albert Icksang Ko, Professor of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at the Yale School of Public Health, will describe how our changing physical and social environment has shaped the emergence of infectious diseases. He will also discuss how researchers at Yale are applying innovation and novel analytical approaches to develop solutions for these new global health threats.

Professor of Epidemiology & Yale School of Public Health
Since 2012 Albert Icksang Ko is the Chair of the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases, Yale School of Public Health and Professor of Medicine, Section of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Yale School of Medicine. Prof Ko graduated from Harvard Medical School and has devoted his career to infectious disease epidemiology. His research has been published high-impact papers such as Cell (2017) and Science (2019). Prof Ko also directs the Global Health Fellows and Scholars Program funded by NIH/FIC and has contributed greatly to global health leadership development.
