Dr. Unni Karunakara will draw on his personal and professional experience as a leader, a humanitarian worker and medical director to share insights on what a leader needs when dealing with crisis situations.

Unni Karunakara, MPH '95
Former International President, Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders; Assistant Clinical Professor of Public Health, Yale University

Dr. Unni Karunakara was International President of Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) from 2010-2013. He has been a humanitarian worker and a public health professional for more than two decades, with extensive experience in the delivery of health care to populations affected by conflict, disasters, epidemics, and neglect in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

Dr. Karunakara was a Senior Fellow of the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University from 2014-2017. He has held various academic and research fellowships at universities in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Germany and the United Kingdom, focusing on the demography of forced migration and the delivery of health care to neglected populations affected by conflict, disasters and epidemics.

Dr. Karunakara is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Public Health at Yale University and a Shinhan Distinguished Visiting Professor at Yonsei University in Korea.

Inc. the Yale Center Beijing is pleased to host the Greenberg Distinguished Lecture Series, which will convene thought leaders from all sectors who, in the spirit of Mr. Greenberg, play pivotal roles in building bridges among China, the U.S., and the rest of the world.

Mr. Greenberg has been a member of Yale Center Beijing’s Executive Council and retired as the Chairman and CEO of American International Group (AIG). In 2018, he was awarded the China Reform Friendship Medal.
