The Event

Yale Center Beijing is pleased to host Dr. Liu Tong, Executive Director of the Yale-China Program on Child Development, for the online "Transforming Conflict into an Educational Opportunity: Social-Emotional Parenting Webinar Series," which will take place every Friday night from July 9 to 30.

She will focus on solution-based strategies to help Chinese-speaking parents understand and build emotional regulation and resilience at home. Some of the related topics include how to express our negative feelings to others, how to communicate with children using non-judgmental and encouraging language, and how to help children deal with failure and disappointment.

Research Scientist, Yale Child Study Center Executive Director, Yale-China Program on Child Development

Dr. Tong Liu is Research Scientist at the Yale Child Study Center, and Executive Director of the Yale-China Program on Child Development. Her research involves social emotional learning, parenting, early childhood education, play pedagogy.

  • How should parents grow with and understand their children’s developmental journey and mindset?
  • How should parents help kids deal with setbacks and disappointment?
  • How should parents and children deal with bullying/being bullied?
  • How should parents and children regulate emotions and cultivate emotional resilience together?

Format:

  • 4 60-minute online lecture and discussion sessions (a total of 4 hours) over 4 weeks
  • A panel discussion featuring parents of Yale College alumni+light dinner
