Yale-NUS Dean of Faculty Charles Bailyn will join us virtually from Singapore and engage in dialog with audiences in Beijing. Manager of Alumni Affairs Austin Shiner will appear live in Beijing to moderate the discussions.

Professor Charles Bailyn is Yale-NUS' inaugural Dean of Faculty. He is also the A. Bartlett Giamatti Professor of Astronomy and Physics at Yale University.

Professor Bailyn was an undergraduate at Yale (class of 1981) and did graduate work at Cambridge and Harvard University, receiving his PhD from Harvard in 1987. Professor Bailyn's work on measuring the masses of black holes was awarded the 2009 Bruno Rossi prize from the American Astronomical Society. In addition to his research work, Professor Bailyn has developed innovative teaching methods in science courses for non-scientists, and has been awarded the Dylan Hixon Prize, Yale's highest honor for teaching excellence in the natural sciences.

Austin moved to Singapore in September 2011 as one of the first employees of Yale-NUS College. In nearly four years with the Admissions & Financial Aid Office, he saw the College grow from blueprints and strategy plans to a living institution with 500+ four-year students, 100+ dedicated faculty, and 140+ professional staff. Austin shifted into the President's Office in July to build Yale-NUS' alumni affairs capacity in advance of the first class' graduation in 2017.

Austin Shiner is a 2011 graduate of Yale College.
