The Event

Architect Na Wei (M.Arch. 2004) launched a new book Suffused Space that reflects her design practice, academic methodology and theoretical research in the field of architecture. Yansong Ma (M. Arch. 2002), founder of MAD architects, wrote the foreword for this book.

On September 20, Na Wei will share her thoughts of the relationship between people and building environment and the methodology she named as Emotive Design. Meanwhile, Na Wei and other three Yale alumni will discuss a series of hot topics: today's architecture in China and real estate investment.

The Speakers

Na Wei (M.Arch. 2004)
Founding Partner & Design Director, WEI architects

Na Wei is a Class A Registered Architect in China, LEED Accredited Professional and NCARB. In 2009, ELEVATION WORKSHOP, founded by Na Wei and Christopher Mahoney, established its Beijing office, WEI architects.

While pursuing her dream as an architect, Na studied with Zaha Hadid, and was responsible for the design of several important projects, including development for the renovation and the expansion of Lincoln Center, the National Sports Museum, and Shanghai Cultural Plaza Grand Theatre. Many projects, such as Xiao Xi Jia, WHY Hotel, SongMax Concept store, received international and domestic awards.

In 2017, AD100 listed her as the "China's 100 Most Influential Architectural Design Elite". She was selected as "A Retrospective on Ten Years of Practice in Eastern Context" by Yale School of Architecture in 2018 and 20 Chinese Female Architects Shaping the Future published by Thames & Hudson [London] in 2019.

Na received her B.Arch from the Tsinghua University, and M.Arch from Yale University. She taught at China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Tsinghua University.

Zhonggui Zhao (M.Arch. 2001)
Founding Partner, Zephyr (US) Architects P.C.

Zhonggui Zhao is a founding partner of Zephyr (US) Architects P.C. He has been practicing architecture in China and the US for more than 20 years. He has been responsible for a broad range of projects, including civic buildings, institutional buildings, mixed-use and residential developments. Before starting Zephyr Architects, he worked as a senior architect at Pei Cobb Freed & Partners in New York. Zhao received his B.Arch from Tsinghua University, and M.Arch from Yale University.

Yong Mei (M.Arch. 2004)
Assistant President, Sunac China Holdings Limited

Yong Mei is the chief manager of Sunac Cultural Tourism Institute and assistant president of Sunac China Holdings Limited. Before 2018, He was the executive vice president of WANDA Cultural Tourism Planning & Research Institute, Wanda Group, the design director of Goettsch Partners, and senior designer of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Architecture from Tsinghua University and M.Arch from Yale University.

Pengzhan Du (M.Arch. '02)
General Manager & Design Director of Product Management Center of Guangzhou Wanxi (Vanke) Real Estat Co., LTD

Pengzhan Du is the general manager and design director of Product Management Center of Guangzhou Wanxi (Vanke) Real Estate Co., LTD. He worked for Kevin Roche (KRJDA), NBBJ and Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Architecture from Tsinghua University and M.Arch from Yale University.

Shiru Shang (M.Arch. 2003)
Assistant President, Taikang Health Industry Investment Holdings Co.,Ltd

Shiru Shang is Assistant President and Chief Real Estate Executive Officer at Taikang Health Industry Investment Holdings Co.,Ltd. He worked for SOHO China and Perkins Eastman Architects. He holds a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Tsinghua University, and later obtained his M.Arch from Yale University and Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Finance from New York University.
