The Event

In the new era of social media where visual communication dominates, how should we reflect on the role of architectural design and the urban environment in which we live? Can images and narratives take us beyond the limits of reality and become the medium for exploring the values and meanings of architecture?

On December 21, we invite architects and architectural scholars who are engaged in creative drawing and writing, as well as those interested in architecture and urban planning, to discuss our cities and spaces as images and narratives.

Moderator

Jingqiu Zhang (M.E.D. '19)
Architect, Reflex-arc Studio

Jingqiu Zhang is an architect from Reflex-arc Studio. As a young architectural scholar, she has written and interviewed for Arch-Position, World Architecture, Owspace, Paprika!, Yale Retrospecta, and other publications, with a strong interest in urban studies and research. She also translated New Urban Suburbanization and published Representation of City. Jingqiu Zhang graduated with a Master of Environmental Design degree from the Yale School of Architecture, and a Bachelor in Architecture from the University of Hong Kong.

The Speakers

Han Li
Architect

Han Li is a national first-class registered architect, leading the Drawing Architecture Studio in areas of architectural design, urban research and picture-book publishing. He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and worked for many years in the China Architecture Design & Research Institute. His work includes A Little Bit of Beijing · Dashilar.

Yang Ye
Director of the Editorial Office of World Architecture Magazine

Yang Ye is the director of the editorial office of World Architecture magazine, and a writer for architectural reviews, novels and book reviews. She is a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University.

Siyong Liu
Associate Professor, School of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts

Siyong Liu is an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and the founder of studioFLAT. As an architect, graphic novelist, artist and curator, she has curated exhibitions including「Cross-Boundary Narrative」 "FINDING MIA" (2018) and "100,000 Kinds of Possibilities--New Youth Living Space" (2019) during the Beijing Design Week. She graduated from the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Reflex-arc Studio

The dynamic team was founded in Beijing in 2018. They seek to research and reflect on contemporary urban and architectural designs from a multidisciplinary perspective connecting architecture with urban planning, social sciences and art.
