Please join us for the “Post-COVID-19 Career Development Strategies” speaker series presented by Yale SOM Alumni Association Beijing. Our first event features Dr. Jian Lu, President of LinkedIn China, and Mr. James Mi, Founding Partner of Lightspeed China Partners, emceed by Judy Zhang ’12 MBA, Managing Director in Cambridge Associates' Beijing office.

They will share some unique insights and experiences about the job market dynamics from the perspectives of a corporate executive and an investor. This is also a great opportunity to gain perceptions into career development through the eyes of industry leaders. The speaker series will be held online on Friday, October 9th at 7pm.

The Speakers

 

Jian Lu
Corporate Vice President, LinkedIn President, LinkedIn China

Dr. Jian Lu is Corporate Vice President of LinkedIn and President of LinkedIn China. He joined LinkedIn China in April 2018, leading the R&D of products and technologies in the China market and overseeing LinkedIn’s business in China. Dr. Jian Lu has over 20 years of experience in leading product and technology innovations in Silicon Valley and China. He is also an inspirational team leader, a renowned technologist and an experienced entrepreneur.

Dr. Jian Lu joined Apple in 1996. First as Senior Scientist at the Interactive Media Group and then Lead Principal Engineer of ProVideo Engineering, he led the design and development of the image & video compression, multimedia interaction and other technologies in the large cross-platform multimedia software QuickTime. He was also in the engineering team that developed and delivered Apple’s first streaming media product QuickTime Streaming.

In 2006, Dr. Lu founded Vobile (03738.HK) and took the role as CTO, where he invented the VDNA® (VideoDNA) technology in video content fingerprinting and identification. Then in 2010, he was invited by the founder of Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited to go back and work in China. He was successively VP of Shanda Interactive Entertainment, CTO of 360 Video, and CEO of CCtalk, prior to LinkedIn.

Dr. Jian Lu holds his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Zhejiang University and his master and doctor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from China Academy of Railway Science and Dartmouth College, respectively. He also finished his postdoc study at the Computer Department of Dartmouth College and the Image Analysis Research Center of UC Daivis.

James Mi
Founding Partner, Lightspeed China Partners

James Mi is Founding Partner of Lightspeed China Partners, a leading China-focused venture capital firm with over US$2 billion under management. James' early-stage investments include listed companies Meituan/Dianping, Pingduoduo, Rong360 and Innolight. He ranks No. 21 on 2020 Forbes global top 100 VC Midas List.

Prior to founding Lightspeed China in 2011, James was Managing Director with Lightspeed Venture Partners, a leading US venture capital firm with US$8 billion under management. Before Lightspeed, James was Director of Corporate Development for Google, responsible for the company’s strategic investments and M&A efforts in the Greater China and pan-Asian region. James served as Head of Asia Products at Google and Chief Representative of the Google China Representative Office in 2004.

James holds 14 US patents in flash memory, communications, Internet security and commerce. He serves on Princeton University’s Graduate School Leadership Council and Advisory Council of Center for Contemporary China.

James received a BS in Physics from Fudan University, a MS in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, and received executive management training at Stanford University.

Judy Zhang ’12 MBA
Managing Director, Cambridge Associates' Beijing Office

Judy Zhang is a Managing Director in Cambridge Associates’ Beijing office and head of China business. She joined Cambridge Associates Boston office in 2012, then returned to China in 2014. Judy has worked with a variety of institutional investors (sovereign wealth funds, family offices, endowment and foundations, and insurance companies) with assets ranging from $100 million to $30 billion, on asset allocation strategy, manager selection, and investment program evaluation. She has also lead numerous private equity, venture capital and hedge fund due diligence.
