The Event

2020 has been a year unlike any other. Though we grow older and wiser every year, this year it is especially worth celebrating together. Let’s celebrate and welcome the new year with marvelous music together! We sincerely invite you to join the New Year Concert 2021 at Yale Center Beijing on December 26. The concert features renowned flutists Zhaorong Chen, Gergely Ittzés, with accompaniment by Yue Li on the piano.

The Performers

Zhaorong Chen ’01 M.M.
Flutist
Professor of Flute, China Conservatory of Music

Zhaorong Chen currently serves as Professor of Flute at the China Conservatory of Music. He is the first mainland Chinese flutist to receive a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the USA. After he graduated from the University of Bridgeport, he continued his studies and achieved a Master of Music degree from Yale University. As a flutist, Chen has performed in the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Woolsey Hall and Sprague Memorial Hall at Yale University, and Musical Hall at the National Center for the Performing Arts.

Gergely Ittzés
Resident Faculty of Flute, Tianjin Juilliard

Born in Hungary, Gergely Ittzés is active in many fields of music making. Ittzés is a member of the UMZE Chamber Ensemble and founder of the TeTraVERSI Flute Quartet. He holds a doctorate from the Franz Liszt Academy. Ittzés won the Grand Prix of the 2nd Aleksander Tansman International Competition for Musical Personalities, Franz Liszt Award, and Lajtha Award. He has performed with Magdalena Kožena, Markus Stockhausen, Heinz Holliger, Peter Frankl, Miklós Perényi, Zoltán Kocsis, Péter Eötvös, Dénes Várjon, Amadinda Percussion Group, Barnabás Kelemen, and Kristóf Baráti, and appeared as a soloist with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, Austrian-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra, Toronto Sinfonietta, Katowice Philharmonic, Bach Works New York, Huntsville Symphony, and other ensembles.

Yue Li
Piano Instructor, Conducting Department of China Conservatory of Music

Yue Li holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Central Conservatory of Music. She is currently a piano instructor in the conducting department of the China Conservatory of Music. She was once invited to perform solo at the "Open the Door of Music" concert series at the Beijing Concert Hall and for "Chopin's Birth Anniversary Concert" and "Liszt's Birth Anniversary Concert" at the Zhongshan Concert Hall. Since 2013, Yue Li has joined Professor Tongde Zhu’s flute workshop as a professional accompanist at the Central Conservatory of Music, and has also accompanied the concerts of Professor Zhaorong Chen of the China Conservatory of Music and Professor Barbara Siesel of Juilliard.
