The Event

Relax and take a break from the hot summer by enjoying a refreshing musical recital performed by the woodwind quintet featuring Mingzhu Wang '07 M.M. and her friends. The repertoire ranges from the classical period to the modern time, using works of different styles and characteristics to fully express the possibilities of woodwind quintet music.

The Performers

Mingzhu Wang '07 M.M.
Flutist

Mingzhu Wang is a graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Yale University, and Zurich University of the Arts. She has formerly been a player of the Symphony Orchestra of the Central Conservatory of Music. She won first place in the youth division of the First National Art Academy Flute Competition held by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China in 2004, and first place in the youth division of the flute at the 10th Città di Chieri International Youth Music Competition in Italy in 2010.

Mingzhu Wang recently partnered with China Media Group Mobile to live broadcast her recital. She also performed in the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China in 2019 and at Carnegie Hall in the United States in the same year.

Guan Wang
Clarinetist

Guan Wang is the Acting Principal Clarinet of the Orchestra Academia China. He graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in 2005. He was awarded third place in the junior division of the First National Clarinet Competition in 1994, the Excellent Prize in the youth division of the Second National Clarinet Competition in 2001, and third place in the First National Woodwind Repertoire Competition in 2004.

Bo Li
Horn Player

Bo Li is a horn player of the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra. He used to be the principal horn of the China Opera and Dance Theater. He has performed many times with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, China Symphony Orchestra, and Central Opera House. He has also provided technical support for Tianjin Jinbao Musical Instrument and developed the fh 603 double-row French horn, which was used in the parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's Anti-Japanese War and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Tzu-I Lee
Bassoonist

Tzu-I Lee, born in Taiwan, is a bassoonist and pianist. Ms. Lee graduated in 2009 from The Boston Conservatory as a scholarship recipient and holds a degree in bassoon performance and minor in piano performance. She received a Master’s degree in bassoon performance at Boston University in 2011 under scholarship.
From 2010-2014, she worked as a piano faculty at the Chinese Elementary School in Boston. Tzu-I Lee pursued a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in bassoon performance at Boston University as a scholarship recipient. She served as Associate Principal Bassoon for Guiyang Symphony Orchestra from 2014 to 2018. Ms. Lee is currently working at The National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra.

Zhaohao Meng
Oboist

Zhaohao Meng, currently studying at the Central Conservatory of Music, is under the tutelage of Professor Weidong Wei. He ranked the top of the "Best of the Best" of the Central Conservatory of Music. Meng has also won many competitions including first place in the Chinese Little Golden Bell Award for Music, second place in the 15th Wind Chamber Music Woodwind Solo Competition of the Central Conservatory of Music, third place in the 8th Giuseppe Ferlendis International Oboe Competition in Italy, and first place in the Asian International Youth Oboe Competition.
