The Event

Over the past 44 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the two countries have faced numerous challenges and opportunities. On August 30th, Professor Xiao Ren at Fudan University and Chairman Victor Gao MA '90, JD '93, of the Yale Law Association of China will be guests at Yale Center Beijing to discuss the question, "Whither U.S.-China Relations?"

Xiao Ren

Professor of International Politics, Institute of International Studies, Fudan University

Director, Center for the Study of Chinese Foreign Policy

Dr. Ren is currently a professor of international politics at the Institute of International Studies (IIS) of Fudan University and Director of the Center for the Study of Chinese Foreign Policy. Previously, he was Senior Fellow and Director of the Asia Pacific Studies Department, Shanghai Institute for International Studies (SIIS), and worked at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo from 2010 to 2012. Dr. Ren has published several books, including Human Security and Cross-Border Cooperation in East Asia (2019, co-editor) and New Frontiers in China’s Foreign Relations (2011, co-editor), as well as numerous journal articles.

Victor Gao MA '90, JD '93

Chairman, Yale Law School Association of China

Victor Gao is Chairman of the Yale Law School Association of China, Chair Professor of Soochow University, Vice President of the Center for China and Globalization, and Advisor of Saudi Aramco. He served in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an English Interpreter to the Second Generation of Chinese Leadership. Gao has extensive experience in legal practice, investment banking, private equity, securities regulation, and corporate management, and is frequently interviewed by major Chinese and global media networks on domestic and international affairs. He holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Yale Law School and is admitted to the Bar of New York State.
