The Event
The Middle East remains a vital focal point for global security, shaped by intricate alliances, ideological conflicts, and strategic rivalries. The ongoing debate between strategies of escalation and de-escalation reflects the region’s deep geopolitical complexities. With the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, the trajectory of the region could see significant changes, influencing both local stability and broader international relations.
On December 14, Zhu Zhaoyi, former Visiting Scholar at Yale Law School's Paul Tsai China Center, and Karim Alwadi, Senior Fellow at the Institute of Global Governance and Development at Renmin University of China, will be joined by moderator Sean Wang, Executive President of International Operations for TCL Zhonghuan Renewable Energy Technology, for an in-depth discussion on the potential future paths of the Middle East.

Zhaoyi Zhu

Dr. Zhaoyi Zhu is one of China’s leading young scholars on the Middle East, Israel, American Jewish Studies, and Chinese foreign policy on the Middle East, as well as China-U.S. trade policy. He currently serves as Research Associate Professor at the Institute of International Economic Studies, and is Founder of the Israel Studies Center and Deputy Director of the BRICS Center at University of International Business and Economics. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Paul Tsai China Center in Fall 2022.
Karim Alwadi
Advisory Board Member, China-Arab State Expo
Senior Fellow at the Institute of Global Governance and Development, Renmin University
Dr. Karim Alwadi is an entrepreneur, scholar, and author based in Beijing since 2001. He has founded several companies across various sectors, including machinery manufacturing, infrastructure investment, and merchant banking. Holding a Bachelor’s and Master’s in International Relations from Renmin University and a PhD in International Politics from China Foreign Affairs University, he is an active member of the Chinese Business and Academic Society. Karim currently serves as an Advisory Board Member for the China-Arab State Expo and Senior Fellow at the Institute of Global Governance and Development at Renmin University, among other roles. He is the author of The Real Story of Hezbollah (World Affairs Press) and ChinaPhobia: A Wasted Opportunity (Penguin Publishing Group).

Sean Wang
Executive President of International Operations, TCL Zhonghuan Renewable Energy Technology
Sean Wang is the Executive President of International Operations for TCL Zhonghuan Renewable Energy Technology (TZE). Prior to his role at TZE, he was Chairman of Shanghai E-Talent Digitech Investment from October 2019 to June 2022, and Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Director of ENN Group, as well as CEO of ENN Energy Holdings from March 2016 to September 2019. He was also a managing partner at Sino-Sin Investment Fund and Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer at China Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group, and has held various other executive leadership roles throughout his career.
