The Event 

The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival advances the mission of the Yale School of Music through intense focus on the study and development of chamber music. Founded in the 1890s, Norfolk has become one of the most prestigious chamber music festivals in the States. The Festival provides opportunities for the most talented young musicians to collaborate with internationally acclaimed musicians and presents world-class performances exploring traditional and contemporary chamber music repertoire.

On January 22, 2025, Norfolk will present its first China audition at Yale Center Beijing. Applications are available for advanced individual strings, woodwinds, brass, and piano, as well as pre-formed string quartets, piano trios, wind quintets, and brass quintets. All participants will receive a fellowship covering the full cost of tuition, housing, and meals, while fellows accepted as individual instrumentalists will be placed into ensembles.

Norfolk Chamber Music Festival will hold a concert at the Yale Center Beijing on January 23, 2025. The concert will feature Melvin Chen, the director of the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, pianist Chuhan Zhang BA/MM '18, and members of the Shanghai Quartet, violinist Angelo Yu and cellist Sihao He.
