The Event

We are delighted to extend a special invitation to an afternoon concert and reception presented by the Yale School of Music on June 1 at Yale Center Beijing. José García-León, Dean of the Yale School of Music, will be joined by Chuhan Zhang BA/MM ’18 and a Yale student brass quintet for a curated performance. Following the concert, there will be an opportunity to meet Dean García-León and hear about the latest developments at the School of Music, as well as to connect with the perfomers and fellow Yale alumni.

José García-León
Henry and Lucy Moses Dean of Music, Yale School of Music

José García-León is the Henry and Lucy Moses Dean of Music at Yale University. His contribution to the music-education sphere began at Oakland Community College in Michigan, and he subsequently served as associate dean and associate professor of music at the University of New Haven's College of Arts and Sciences, and as dean of academic affairs and assessment at The Juilliard School. He is also the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including prize-winning performance at the Artist International Competition in New York. He has performed extensively as a solo recitalist around the globe, notably at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and the St. Petersburg International Music Festival. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Manhattan School of Music.

Chuhan Zhang BA/MM ’18
Lecturer, China Academy of Art

Chuhan Zhang received her B.A. in History at Yale College, an M.M. in Piano Performance at Yale School of Music, and PhD in Art History at the China Academy of Art. Currently, she is a lecturer at the China Academy of Art and has received widespread acclaim for her performances in China and abroad. She is a prize-winner and participant of international piano competitions and music festivals. In 2023, Chuhan was selected as one of the top ten pianists by the People's Music Publishing House and the Chinese Musician Association. Her albums to date include The Moments (2013), Chopin (2016), ShinyWhale (2021), and Chopin Preludes (2024).
