The Event

Yale Center Beijing invites you to a dialogue on education innovation in China. During the event, the panelists and audience will explore the following questions:

• What kind of education is needed for our youngest generation?
• What is the future of elementary education?
• What should a school for the future look like?
• How have efforts to deliver personalized learning worked in the U.S.?
• What can we learn from the experiences of public schools and international schools in China?
• What are some paths to achieve both equity and quality in our education system?

The language of the event will be Chinese.

The Speaker(s)

Yinuo Li
China program director at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Yinuo Li, Director of China program for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Founder of the ETUSchool project in her personal capacity. Yinuo joined the foundation in 2015 after a career at McKinsey & Co., where she was most recently a partner at the firm’s office in Palo Alto, California. Yinuo has a B.S. in biology from Tsinghua University in Beijing and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from UCLA.

Paul France
National Board Certified practicing educator and international education consultant

Paul France is a National Board Certified practicing educator and international education consultant. Paul has worked with grades from Kindergarten through 5th grade, with experiences ranging from public school to innovative private schools. Recently, Paul has opened two microschools for the education technology startup, AltSchool, where he collaborates with fellow educators and technologists on building a modern and humanist model for personalized learning.

Xuesong Fu
Operational Vice Principal at Tsinghua University's Affiliated Elementary School

Xuesong Fu, the current Operational Vice Principal of Tsinghua University's Affiliated Elementary School, previously served as Executive Principal of the CBD branch of Tsinghua's Elementary School. Ms. Fu is a National Board Certified senior educator and has participated in many curriculum-design programs with the Ministry of Education and National Teaching Educational Center. Ms. Fu is the principal researcher for the Affiliated Elementary School of Tsinghua University’s "1+X" curriculum, an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines explorations in math, science and art.

Xiaoyue Guo
Principal at EtuSchool

Xiaoyue Guo is the Principal of EtuSchool and one of the earliest core members to join EtuSchool. In 2010 Guo assumed the role of Executive Principal of a personalized elementary school run by Beijing Qisehua Education, in which she explored a mixed-age personalized learning model along with innovative experiential learning techniques. Guo is also a founding member of SVP Beijing (Social Venture Partners). In 2013, she founded LeXing Experiential Education, a social enterprise for adolescents that provides three types of educational "experiences" (natural, life and social), as well as non-profit services and other diversified curricula and activities.

Gan WANG
Yale Ph.D. '99, Founder of the Little Oak Children's House in Beijing

WANG Gan received her B.A. and M.A. from Peking University and Ph.D. in anthropology from Yale University. Returning to China, she founded an experimental preschool, The Little Oak Children’s House, in 2001, where progressive education ideas are practiced. In 2011, in cooperation with Fuping Development Institute, Gan co-founded Thousand Trees Equal Education Partners (TTEEP), bringing high-quality and low-cost curriculum and teacher training to preschools serving low-income families all over China. TTEEP runs its own demo school in a village in suburban Beijing. Gan is also Founding Partner and Former Executive Chair at Social Venture Partners Beijing.

Luou Zhang
International Department Director at The Affiliated High School of Peking University

Luou Zhang is the International Department Director at The Affiliated High School of Peking University. He moved to the U.S. at the age of six, later graduating with a bachelor's degree in Economics at Duke University. Luou first joined Bain & Company, a world-leading management consulting firm, and later joined IDEAS Foundation, for whom he founded IDEAS Center and served as the Center's CEO, where he explored ways to build a personalized education system. Currently Luou serves as International Department Director at The Affiliated High School of Peking University. With the support of the School's principal, Luou also works with ETUSchool to develop a scalable training and curriculum system.
