The Event

Over 85 million people live with a disability in China, which is more than one out of every sixteen people. This panel will address ways to enable people with disabilities to participate fully in all aspects of society from educational, legal, and medical perspectives. In what aspects have disability rights achieved the most success in the past five to ten years? In what areas have they encountered the most pushback? How can we develop practical plans to promote a more inclusive and barrier-free society?

The Speaker(s)

Di WU
Program Coordinator, Poverty, Equity and Governance Team, United Nations Development Program

Ms. WU's work focuses on improving access to justice for marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities, and promoting the "social model of disability" in China. She received her Master's degree from University of Oxford and has focused her research on the culture of discrimination.

Haibin ZHOU
National Project Manager at International Labour Organization

Haibin ZHOU has published many articles related to the implementation of disability rights in China and skill development and non-discrimination in employment for persons with disabilities. Mr. ZHOU has a Master’s degree from University of Sydney as well as the Institute of International Law in Wuhan University, China.

Xingxing WANG
Inclusive Education National Manager for Save the Children’s China program

Xingxing WANG develops high-quality, innovative inclusive-education programs and drives campaigns for inclusive education to deliver immediate and lasting change for children in China. Aside from inclusive education, she has experience in the areas of foster care, street children, and capacity building of organizations led by youth with disabilities.

Meiping HUANG
Founder of the Shenzhou Sons and Daughters Rehabilitation Center in Beijing

Meiping HUANG is one of the first rehabilitation therapists in the field of children's disability rehabilitation. With over ten years of clinical experience, she developed the current therapeutic method system, the HMP therapy. The method has guided the complete recovery of more than 100 children and the partial recovery of more than 800 children from around the country.

Yunzhi PAN
Founder of Clover League: Youth Volunteers for Children with Disabilities project

Yunzhi PAN is a high school student from Beijing who currently attends St. Paul's School, a U.S. boarding school. She founded the Clover League: Youth Volunteers for Children with Disabilities project, which received the 2016 Sokoloff Prize for Kindness and Compassion. She hopes to inspire her peers to think about ways to effectively tackle social issues and actively advocates for disadvantaged populations.
