The Event

The event is by invitation only. Yale Center Beijing and the Smithsonian Institution cordially invite you to an exhibition preview and reception of Last Empresses of China 1644-1912. The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex. The exhibition is organized by the Smithsonian’s Freer | Sackler, Washington, DC; the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts; and the Palace Museum, Beijing. The evening will feature presentation by museum curators along with the opportunity to network with Chinese and American collectors and art lovers.

The Exhibition

Last Empresses of China: 1644–1912 is a tale of influence and opulence. This unprecedented assembly of spectacular objects illuminates the lives of imperial women of the Qing dynasty (1644–1912). The exhibition opens in August 2018 in Salem, Massachusetts, and ends in May 2019 in Washington, D.C.
