The Event

Building Bridges is a Yale student organization that started in 2008 to involve college students in pooling education resources and capital to promote education equality and improve other social issues. Our summer project 2017 gathered 50 student volunteers to teach at Hongdong Shanxi on key issues like mental health, environmental health and sex education. We will share our summer project experience and gather people's feedback through our innovative design session.

The Speakers

Carol Li Rafferty (Yale '00)
Managing Director of Yale Center Beijing, Co-Founder of Lean In China

Carol Li Rafferty is the inaugural managing director of Yale Center Beijing. Prior to this role, she was with China Investment Corporation and co-founded Lean In China, a 100,000-strong network of women across China. In 2016, the World Economic Forum named her a Young Global Leader. She received her B.A. from Yale University and J.D. from Stanford Law School.

Yongkai Weng
President, AiXin Foundation

Dr. Yongkai Weng is the President of the AiXin Foundation. She graduated from Peking University in 1980 in China, and received her Ph.D. in 1992 from Temple University in the US. She worked with the US FDA after completed her post-doctoral training at the NCI,NIH. Dr. Weng founded the AiXin Foundation with a group of Chinese Americans in the US in 2002. She returned to China in 2006, and one of her roles is to serve as a liaison to facilitate cooperation between state institutions, international organizations, and local and community based NGOs.
