The Speaker

Toni Harp
Mayor of New Haven

An abiding commitment to social justice steers Mayor Harp’s career in public service. Her interest in urban planning led her to serve as a member of New Haven’s Board of Aldermen, then for 21 years as state Senator for Connecticut’s 10th District. She was recently elected to a third term as mayor. Throughout her career, her policy priorities have centered on full access to affordable healthcare, public safety and an equitable criminal justice system, public education, with particular emphasis on early childhood learning and literacy, and job creation and economic development.

Toni Harp has lived in New Haven for more than 40 years and was the Homeless Service Director at the Cornell Scott Hill Health Center for more than 20 years.
