The Event

The internet is an essential part of modern life, but at what point does internet use transition from normal to pathologic? How can you recognize when your internet use or that of your child is becoming harmful? We will address these questions while exploring the evolution of problematic internet use and the current debate around whether “internet addiction” truly exists. With the popularity of internet addiction “boot camps” in China, we will also discuss approaches to manage, and better yet prevent, problematic internet use in adolescents.

The Speaker

Joseph Donroe
Director of the Physical Exam Clinical Skills Course, Yale University School of Medicine

Dr. Donroe completed his medical and public health degrees in 2007 from Tufts University School of Medicine in the USA. He continued his residency training at the Yale University School of Medicine (USA) and was board-certified in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine in 2011. Dr. Donroe further specialized in Addiction Medicine and became board-certified in 2015. In addition to his work at Beijing United Family Hospital in the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Donroe is a faculty member for the Yale Primary Care Residency Program and Co-Director of the Yale Internal Medicine Point of Care Ultrasound Curriculum.
