The Event

Please join us in welcoming the newly accepted students and scholars (including undergrads, graduate and professional students and Yale World Fellows) entering Yale this fall, as well as new Beijing arrivals and interns. We look forward to meeting new members as well as all those who are interested in participating in the Yale Club this year. Afterwards, Chris Wong (99' MA, Yale School of Music) and cellist Yi-bing Chu are invited to present the Welcome Concert.

Chris Wong (99' MA, Yale School of Music)

Chris Wong won a scholarship to study at the Yale University, School of Music and graduated with a master degree, majoring in guitar performance in 1999. Chris was the winner of the Hong Kong Guitar Festival. He was chosen to attend the “Santiago de Compostela International Guitar Festival” in Spain with the sponsorship of the Spanish Consulate General.

Chu Yi-Bing

Chu Yi-Bing was the last student from Maurice Gendron, great french master, at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. In 1986 Chu was prize winner of the 42nd Concours International d’Exécution Musicale in Geneva, becoming the first Chinese cellist ever winning a prize in an important international Cello competition. In 1987 Chu graduated from the Conservatory in Paris with a Premier Prix. From 1989 to 2004 Chu was principal cellist of the Basel Symphony Orchestra, Switzerland. He was also guest principal cellist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1999. Chu Yi-Bing Cello Ensemble has played for several leaders of China and many other nations. In 2016, 2017 and 2018, Chu Yi-Bing planned and organized SuperCello, the first Full-Day Classic Music Festival in China.

The Welcome Reception is open ONLY to newly accepted students and scholars, Yale alumni and current students.

The Welcome Concert is open to all, including non-Yale affiliates.
