The Event

With the breakdown of US-China government relations, intractable trade disputes and now bitter accusations over COVID-19, are Americans and Chinese destined to be enemies? Can the most important bilateral relationship of this century be retrieved? What explains the continuing well of positive feeling toward America among ordinary Chinese people? Can people-to-people engagement help us ride out the current downturn and rebuild trust? These are the questions to be tackled in this webinar presentation cosponsored by the Yale Club of Shenzhen and the Yale Center Beijing.

Yale people — backed by a unique history of two centuries of engagement with Chinese people — take a long view as they continue to build bridges based on practical relationships. David Youtz, president of the Yale-China Association, together with friends in China, will offer a window into China in 2020 through Yale exchanges and collaborations, acts of generosity through the pandemic, and the little-known history that has created this positive platform on which lives can be changed and trust rebuilt.
