The Event

As advancements in technology change industries throughout the world, they are yielding great benefits for business and society. Yet we also see the potential for more splintered digital world and have concerns about regional platforms such as Google and Facebook in the U.S. and Alibaba and Tencent in China.

Professor Edward A. Snyder, former Dean of Yale SOM and the William S. Beinecke Professor of Economics and Management, will be joined by Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group to discuss the future of high-tech industries in the China, US, and beyond.

Edward A. Snyder

Management

Edward A. Snyder is the William S. Beinecke Professor of Economics and Management at the Yale School of Management. He serves as Chair of the Global Network for Advanced Management, and is also a member of the Visiting Committee of MIT Sloan and the International Advisory Counsel of Stockholm School of Economics. He conducts research on Industrial Organization topics and on Competition Policy and Enforcement. He teaches Economic Analysis of High-Tech Industries to Yale students and to students in the Global Network for Advanced Management.

During his tenure at Yale, Professor Snyder (i) developed the Global Network for Advanced Management that now includes 32 top business schools, (ii) forged strong programmatic relationships with Yale academic units, and (iii) introduced the Master of Advanced Management and the Master of Management Studies degree.

 

Jane Sun
CEO, Trip.com Group
Member of Advisory Committee, Yale Center Beijing

Jane Sun is the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of Trip.com Group Ltd. She first joined the company as the Chief Financial Officer in 2005, later serving as the Chief Operating Officer and the Co-President, before moving into the CEO role in 2016.

Ms. Sun is well respected for her extensive experiencein operating and managing online travel businesses, mergers and acquisitions, and financial reporting and operations, having received numerous accolades for her work in the industry. In 2019, she was awarded an Asia Society Asia Game Changer Award and joined as a member of the Asia Society Board of Trustee. Forbes named her one of the Emergent 25 Asia’s Latest Star Businesswomen in 2018, and one of the Most Influential and Outstanding Businesswomen in China in 2017. She was also one of 2020 Fortune’s Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Business.

Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Maurice R. Greenberg, Chairman and CEO of C.V. Starr & Co. Inc. the Yale Center Beijing is pleased to host the Greenberg Distinguished Colloquium, which will convene thought leaders from all sectors who, in the spirit of Mr. Greenberg, play pivotal roles in building bridges among China, the U.S., and the rest of the world.

Mr. Greenberg has been a member of Yale Center Beijing’s Executive Council and retired as the Chairman and CEO of American International Group (AIG). In 2018, he was awarded the China Reform Friendship Medal.
