Social Responsibility in the Age of Climate Change: Personal, Corporate & Global

The Event

China targets to reach peak emissions before 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. How can individuals, corporations, and societies work together to achieve these goals? On August 21, Xiaojun Qian, Associate Dean of Academics at Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman College, Yi Wang, Party Secretary, Deputy Dean, and Professor at Renmin University of China, and Meng Liu, Head of the United Nations Global Compact’s China office, will discuss how to combat climate change and contribute to carbon neutrality from their respective perspectives.

The Speakers

Xiaojun Qian
Associate Dean of Academics, Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University

Xiaojun Qian is currently the Associate Dean of Academics at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University (August 2018 – present) and a professor in the Department of Leadership and Organization Management at the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SEM). She is also the director of the Research Center for Green Economy and Sustainable Development of Tsinghua University. She teaches managerial communication, business ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability related courses for the MBA, EMBA and executive education programs. Qian is a member of the 12th and 13th Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Qian graduated with her Bachelor degree from Tsinghua University and received her master’s and PhD degrees from Purdue University.

Yi Wang
Party Secretary, Deputy Dean, and Professor, School of Marxism Studies, Renmin University of China

Yi Wang is Party Secretary, Deputy Dean, and Professor at Renmin University of China, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Youth Federation, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Women's Federation (part-time), and Chief Expert of the Central Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project. She has published more than one hundred academic papers in leading journals and newspapers such as People's Daily, Guangming Daily, Studies on Marxism, Teaching and Research, and more than ten academic publications. She has been recognized as the "Most Beautiful Teacher of 2020," a "National Outstanding Teacher," one of "Ten Thousand Most Talented Teachers," a "Changjiang Scholar" by the Ministry of Education, and as a “Best Educator,” “Best Innovator,” and a March 8th Red Flag Medal Recipient in Beijing.

Meng Liu
Head of China Office, United Nations Global Compact

Meng Liu is the Head of China Office with the United Nations Global Compact. Prior to this role, Meng serves as Asia Pacific Head, overseeing over 15 country networks and operations across the region. Before joining the United Nations in 2007, Ms. Liu worked in for the non-profit and public sector across the US and in Asia. She was a fellow on Asian public policy with the Harvard Kennedy School and book author of “Responsibility Changes the World-UN Global Compact Leading Business Revolution Worldwide.” Ms. Liu speaks regularly at global and regional conferences on the topics of corporate social responsibility, inclusive business, climate change, cross-sector partnership, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ms. Liu has been honored as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2015 and nominated as the Local Chair for China for Young Global Leaders Communities in 2021. She has also been a member of the Global Future Council on Frontier Risks since 2020.

Mr. Greenberg has been a member of Yale Center Beijing’s Executive Council and retired as the Chairman and CEO of American International Group (AIG). In 2018, he was awarded the China Reform Friendship Medal.
