In the case of unexpected circumstances (such as rainstorm warning, mudslides, etc.), the event will be canceled and refunded. Seats are limited to 30 and available on a first-come-first-served basis for alumni of Ivy-League Schools and their children. 

 

The Event

Yale and Harvard Beijing alumni and their families, along with students of Dandelion School from peasant-worker families, will gather at Donglingshan, a summer resort in the west of Beijing, to visit the Donglingshan forest dynamics plot of the Beijing Forest Ecosystem Positioning Research Station of the Institute of Botany at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to enjoy nature and learn about the biodiversity found in Donglingshan forest.

Yan Zhu Postdoc '17

Associate Professor in Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Science

Yan Zhu, a '17 Postdoctoral Research at the Yale School of the Environment, is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the PI of the Donglingshan forest dynamics plot in Beijing. Dr. Zhu focuses on understanding the maintenance mechanisms of diverse-species coexistence and the relationship of biodiversity and ecosystem functions (e.g. forest carbon stocks) in large-scale forest communities, especially in the field of tree interactions. Her research is mainly based on the Donglingshan forest plot in Beijing, together with the Chinese Forest Biodiversity Network (CForBio) and the Forest Global Earth Observatory (ForestGEO), and looks at the change, maintenance and protection of biodiversity, as well as ecological restoration within the context of global change.

Yang Wang

Engineer of Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Yang Wang is an engineer at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as the executive director of the Beijing Forest station. His research interests are in vegetation protection and environment observation in warm temperate forest ecosystems.

Bo Liu

Lecturer, School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Minzu University of China

Bo Liu graduated from the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a Ph.D. and is on faculty at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Minzu University of China. He is also a member of the Conservation Planning Specialist Group, the Society for Economic Botany, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and the Species Survival Commission. He is mainly engaged in plant system and evolution research.
