The Event

On January 13, Richard H. Lawrence, Jr., Founder and Executive Chairman of Overlook Investments, will visit Yale Center Beijing to discuss his recently published book, The Model. He will share his 40-year journey as an Asia-focused money manager navigating financial crises and booms, offer philosophies and lessons that shaped Overlook Investments, and provide insights into best practices for investing in Asia.

Richard H. Lawrence, Jr.
Founder & Executive Chairman, Overlook Investments

Richard H. Lawrence, Jr. is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Overlook Investments, established in 1991. Overlook, an independent fund management firm, has managed a concentrated portfolio of Asian public equities, achieving a 14% annualized return over 31 years on investments totaling USD 7 billion.

Richard earned an Economics degree from Brown University in 1978. Since 1984, he has worked in Asia as Vice President of First Pacific and became the region's second Chartered Financial Analyst in 1986. Focusing his philanthropic efforts on climate change mitigation, he supports initiatives through High Tide Foundation, Carbon Mapper, and other nonprofits. He is the author of The Model and Carbon Done Correctly.

Peilin Jia ’96
Co-Founder, IOH

Peilin Jia is a co-founder of IOH Technology in Beijing and a partner at ORH Partners, a Silicon Valley-based VC fund. Her career spans notable roles at McKinsey, Jones Day, and Macquarie Capital, where she contributed to the Hong Kong IPOs of major firms such as China Merchants Bank, Minsheng Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, and Huaneng Renewables. She also advised KraneShare’s MSCI 100 China ETF and managed a consumer loan fund from 2011 through 2017. In 2018, she joined CreditEase, focusing on venture capital investments and fundraising.
